The rising trend of crossover models might just lead to the birth of an all-new offering as Skoda is reportedly planning to make a Fabia based crossover. Scheduled to hit the showrooms in 2017, this new model will rival the likes of the Nissan Juke and the Peugeot 2008 globally.
Skoda currently only has the Yeti in the form of a crossover. While the Yeti has been around since 2009 and doing well globally, it could soon be joined by a number of SUVs from the Czech automaker. Skoda is looking to sell 1.5 million cars by 2020 and the ambitious target can be achieved only with the help of a formidable SUV range.
Besides the upcoming generation of the Yeti and a new flagship seven seater SUV, Skoda could also be working on a compact crossover based on its popular hatchback, the Fabia. The latter will be a high-riding, sturdy looking version of the Fabia with a more practical cabin. Expect this new model to arrive in Europe by 2017 and compete with a range of crossovers including the Nissan Juke and the Renault Captur.
