The next-gen Skoda Superb has been unveiled at the ongoing 85th Geneva Motor Show. The Czechoslovakian carmaker calls it the “best Skoda ever” and that is a big statement to make.
The new Skoda Superb sports an evolutionary design theme and according to us is the best looking iteration of Skoda’s flagship model. The new car has an 80mm longer wheelbase than the car it replaces and 94mm more than the new VW Passat. The longer wheelbase has liberated lot of cabin space to be exploited and the car also gets a large 625-litre boot space (1760-litre with rear seats folded) and that is a lot.
The new Superb might not be a contender for the best looking car in the world, but it looks elegant. Its design draws inspiration from the Vision C concept shown last year at the Geneva Motor Show. The alloy wheels on one of the display models of the Superb at the show looks near identical to the ones used on the Vision C concept.
The interior, again as indicated by Skoda, a year ago, has been worked on similar lines like the Vision C concept. Apart from the design, one can choose between four infotainment systems, a 610-watt 12-speaker Canton sound system, tri-zone climate control system, heated front & rear seats and a panoramic sunroof.
The new car gets a plethora of engines to choose from for the European markets. There are three petrol engines – 1.4 TSI, 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI and two diesel mills – 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI to choose from. The choice of transmission is a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
The car will go on sale in June this year and expect Skoda to launch it in India by the year end. The Superb has been on top of the game in the entry-level luxury segment here and with the way the new car has shaped up expect it to continue its lead in the segment.
