Skoda’s association with cycling dates back 119 years, when the Czech brand started making pedal-powered two-wheelers. Today Skoda is one of the global partners of the sport, and to celebrate the UK stages of the Tour de France, the brand has revealed three new limited edition models for the Octavia, Yeti and the Superb.
Skoda is offering just 198 special edition models in the UK. That’s the exact number of cyclists entered into this year's race. First up is the Octavia TdF, priced at £24,290. Based on the 2-litre TDI estate model, the car comes with roof bars and a roof-mounted bike carrier instead of an internal one.
The Yeti TdF, on the other hand, is priced at £23,490 (Rs 23.32 lakh). Additional equipment on the compact SUV includes an Amundsen satellite navigation system, keyless entry, floor mats and an internal bike rack.
Lastly, there’s the Superb TdF priced at £28,490 (Rs 28.28 lakh). Based on the 2-litre TDI estate model, the special edition model has the same enhancements as the Yeti, along with a space saver spare wheel and a boot net.
While none of these special edition models will ever make it to Indian soil, what Skoda India will bring instead is the standard version of the new Yeti which made its debut last year at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car has been on sale in a few global markets now and is doing well. Hoping to replicate its global performance, Skoda India will launch the new Yeti in the next couple of months. Like its predecessor, the new Yeti will be a niche vehicle when it arrives in the Indian market.
