We had exclusively reported earlier this month about Skoda preparing an Onyx Edition of its C-Segment sedan, the Rapid. Now, the Czech carmaker has officially launched the Rapid Onyx in India for the price of Rs 9.75 lakhs (ex-showroom all-India). The Onyx Edition is available across four trims with petrol and diesel engines and two transmissions in two colour options – Lapiz Blue and Candy White.
The Rapid Onyx Edition, similar to the Octavia Onyx before it, gets a blacked-out treatment all around. The sedan gets Skoda’s signature grille done in black with a chrome surround. It sits on glossy black 16-inch Clubber alloy wheels with identical bolt covers. The blacked out projector headlamps get white bulbs and LED DRLs. The black treatment extends to the black exterior mirrors, glossy black décor on the B pillars, as well as black body side moulding and trunk lip garnish.
The cabin gets a dual-tone Ebony-Sand interior with a premium perforated beige with wood design leatherette upholstery. The flat bottom steering wheel also gets a leather wrap with black stitching. The floor mats also get premium black stitching and there are chrome inserts as well. Being based on the top-spec trim, the 6.5-inch infotainment system is called ‘Drive’. It comes equipped with SmartLink connectivity features along with MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Other highlights are the rear AC vents, 12V socket both fore and aft, a black waste bin for the front door pocket, scuff plates with Rapid inscription and rear windscreen sunblind.
The Rapid Onyx also gets a host of safety and security features as standard. However, the mechanicals remains unchanged, so you have the same 1.5-litre turbodiesel and 1.6-litre MPI from the standard Rapid. The former produces 109bhp and 250Nm while the latter has an output of 104bhp and 153Nm. The Onyx edition is offered with both manual and automatic transmission across both the engines.
