Skoda has officially released a sketch of its upcoming generation Fabia, ahead of the car’s debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. Set to go on sale in the UK early next year, the new Fabia will join Skoda’s UK model range and will replace the existing hatchback which has been in the market for a significant amount of time.
Skoda says that the upcoming generation Fabia is the company’s first production model to incorporate design cues from the Vision C concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Furthermore, the hatchback will be characterised by its well balanced, tight proportions, says the brand.
Wider and lower than the existing Fabia by nine and three centimetres respectively, the new model will offer more in terms of safety and creature comforts. In terms of the drive-train, Skoda is likely to borrow the same set of engine and gearbox options from the new Volkswagen Polo. In trying to keep the price as competitive as it can, Skoda will continue with the PQ25 platform instead of Volkswagen’s highly efficient MQB architecture.
While the standard hatchback will go on sale in early 2015, the more practical estate version will arrive later during the year. Skoda India stopped selling the Fabia last year; however, we do not expect the upcoming generation Fabia to arrive anytime soon as the company reportedly has put its focus on its most affordable offering – the Rapid sedan.
