Skoda is now selling a 1.8-litre TSI petrol Ambition variant of its new Octavia sedan in the Indian market for Rs 16.85 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). CarWale spoke to a Skoda dealer who confirmed that the variant has been on sale since last week and added that its deliveries will happen by the end of December or early January.
The Skoda Octavia 1.8-litre TSI petrol Ambition variant is priced Rs 1.86 lakh cheaper and loses out on Xenon headlights and daytime LEDs, sunroof and front parking sensors. The price cut also sees the removal of the electrically adjustable drivers’ seat feature and gets only two airbags as compared to the Elegance variant’s six airbags. It is also believed that Skoda has done away with the Cruise Control and the tyre pressure monitoring system.
Mechanically, the Ambition variant makes use of the 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 177bhp and 250Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox.
When the sedan was launched on October 3, the Czech automaker offered three petrol variants and four diesel variants. The base and second level petrol variants are powered by the 1.4-litre engine while the top spec makes uses of a 1.8-litre unit mated to a seven-speed DSG. It is likely that Skoda wants to target a wider audience by offering a cheaper petrol AT also.
