Volkswagen group’s India 2.0 program has been set into motion with the announcement that MD Skoda India, Gurpratap Boparai will also lead Volkswagen India. Pavel Richter will be the technical director for production and will lead the production responsibility for both the brands.
As announced earlier this year, Skoda has been entrusted with the job of leading the India 2.0 program, beginning with the development of the MQB-A0-IN platform for the local market. The first product based on the MQB-A0-IN will be a crossover SUV competing against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and will also spawn a new premium hatchback and a sedan.
Volkswagen’s line-up will also be revamped with products from the same MQB-A0-IN platform in the form of the new Polo, the new Vento and the Indian adaptation of the T-Cross to complete the mass-market line-up. Integration of operations across the two brands will help Volkswagen group reduce the development costs and other overheads, focusing on increased production efficiencies and profits.
