•Gets 1.0-litre TSI petrol
•Bookings to open from 2 December, 2024
It's finally here! After many teasers, Skoda has taken the covers off its Kylaq compact SUV. This is a specially developed sub-four-metre vehicle created with the Indian market in mind. The car will be officially launched in India on December 2 and Skoda has announced that the base variant has been priced at Rs 7.89 lakh. Bookings open from 2 December, 2024. It is offered in six color options, including Lava Blue, Tornado Red, Carbon Steel, Brilliant Silver and Candy White along with a new Olive Gold and delivery begins from 27 January, 2025.
As expected, the Kylaq looks like a mini Kushaq with a very similar face and rear end. In profile, you can see the shortened length, as compared to the Kushaq, to comply with the rules of the sub-four SUV game. It also gets 17-inch alloy wheels.
Highlights of the interior include dual digital screens, powered driver seat, leatherette upholstery, connected car technology, ambient lighting, and a six-speaker Canton sound system. All versions of the Kylaq will get six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control programme, and ISOFIX child seat mounting points, headrests, and three-point seatbelts for all occupants.
The compact SUV measures 3.95 metres with a wheelbase 2.56 metres. Moreover, it gets a ground clearance of 189mm. The boot capacity is of 446 litres boot, and with the seats down, it stands at 1,265 litres.
The Kylaq will be offered with Skoda’s 1.0-litre TSI petrol producing 114bhp and 178Nm. This engine can be had with either a six-speed MT or a six-speed AT. We have driven a pre-production model of the car and you can check out our video below.
This is a very important car for Skoda as it will bring them back to the sub-Rs. 10 lakh price bracket after nearly a decade. The Kylaq is expected to give them volumes and access to Tier 3 and Tier 4 markets where they currently have little to no presence. Rivals for this car include the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Fronx, Maruti Brezza, and the Toyota Taisor.
