- The ‘Kylaq’ name draws inspiration from Mount Kailash
- Will rival the Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and more
Skoda Auto India has officially christened its upcoming compact SUV as the Kylaq. The new offering, upon launch, will compete against the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra 3XO, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and the Tata Nexon.
The third Skoda car under the brand’s India 2.0 program, the name Kylaq was chosen among four other names including Kymaq, Kyroq, Kariq, and Kwiq. It will be underpinned by the MQB-A0-IN platform which forms the base for the Kushaq and the Slavia.
Technical specifications of the new Skoda Kylaq are scarce at the moment. That said, we expect the car to be offered with a 1.0-litre, TSI petrol engine paired with six-speed manual and torque converter automatic transmissions. The power output of this motor could be rated at 114bhp and 178Nm.
Previous teasers shared by Skoda and recent spy shots of the 2025 Skoda Kylaq have hinted at key features such as the split headlamp setup, LED DRLs, new grille, sculpted bonnet with the Skoda logo, inverted L-shaped LED taillights, new alloy wheels, and roof-rails. Details regarding the interior and features are unknown at the moment.
