- Global reveal on 6 November
- Is Skoda’s return to the compact segment after nine years
Return to compact
Skoda is returning to the compact segment after nine years with the production-ready version of the hidden car you see in the photos. Though it will be officially revealed on 6 November, Skoda has revealed some of its major highlights, including its powertrain.
Powertrain details
The engine in question is Skoda’s 1.0-litre TSI petrol that produces 114bhp and 178Nm. It can be had with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter AT. This is the same engine offered across the VW/Skoda family of budget cars.
The numbers for the Kylaq’s powertrain and Skoda’s ability to make fun-to-drive cars should make it quite an experience behind the wheel. We got to sample this earlier this month and you can check out our video below.
Against the competition
However, when you look at the competition, the Kylaq has plonked itself (on paper at least) right in the middle of the fray regarding numbers. The most powerful turbo-petrol engine is Mahindra’s 1.2 GDi mStallion mill producing 110bhp and 230Nm, while at the other end, you have the Fronx/Taisor with Maruti’s Boosterjet engine and are the only ones with a five-speed MT instead of a six-speed MT.
