Skoda’s new small SUV has been christened as the Karoq and it will serve as a replacement to the Yeti in the Czech carmaker’s SUV line-up. It will be positioned below the Kodiaq SUV, and is set to be unveiled on 18 May at a global reveal in Stockholm.
We already know how the new Karoq will look like, thanks to our spy images of the car, spotted at the carmaker’s headquarters a few days ago. The five-seater SUV will adopt its design language from the Kodiaq with a moustache Skoda grille, sharp and sleek headlamps and LED tail lights with lighting signature is identical to that of the Kodiaq.
The new Karoq will share the versatile MQB platform with the Kodiaq, albeit with a shorter wheelbase. It will measure 4,382mm in length, 1,841mm in width and will be 1,605mm in height. The boot will be of 521 litres capacity which can be increased to 1630 litres with the rear seats folded down. There will also be an option of VarioFlex rear seats that gives the flexibility of converting boot space from 479 litres to 588 litres. The new Karoq’s interiors combine practicality with quality interiors.
Engine wise, the Karoq will be offered with the same range of petrol and diesel powertains that are offered in cars based on the same MQB platform. The entry-level 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.5-litre TSI motor are expected to come along with a new active cylinder technology. There will also be a new diesel 1.6-litre TDI engine and a new 2.0-litre TDI motor on offer. This compact SUV will be offered with two and four-wheel drive options. The customers also have the option to choose from a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.
Following its global debut on 18 May, the new Koraq will hit the roads only in late 2017. It will make its way to our shores as well sometime next year.
