Skoda may have had a good start this year in terms of global sales, but the sales figures for the carmaker in India have fallen considerably. By selling only 1,600 cars, this January, in our country, as compared to the 2,400 vehicles sold in the same month in 2013, the company sees a 32.5 per cent decline in sales.
Overall sales saw an increase of 16.5 per cent with 80,900 cars sold in January 2014 in contrast to 69,500 units sold in the corresponding period last year. This growth was majorly due to the strong sales in Europe and China with 48,200 units sold in the European market and 27,500 cars delivered to customers in the Chinese market.
Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Board Member for Sales and Marketing, said, “This has been an excellent start to 2014. With 16.5 per cent growth and the best January ever, we have truly confirmed the outstanding performance of the second half of 2013. Our model campaign is paying off in the markets. The strong start to the year and the promising number of incoming orders make us confident that we will continue to grow this year.”
