- Expected to arrive in 2027
- Will be underpinned by a new platform
Three-row Kushaq
There may be a facelift for the Kushaq coming next year but Skoda is already working on a next-generation SUV and that is likely to arrive in 2027. This was an expected step considering the current car would be six years old by then and have undergone at least one facelift. What is a new development though is that Skoda is evaluating a three-row model for this next-generation Kushaq.
Logical progression
This is a logical step for two reasons. The first is that the automaker has said that the current Kushaq’s dimensions have been ‘set in stone’ and cannot be altered, which means that even to eke out more, rear seat space will be a challenge, hence a new generation of the car. This car will be underpinned by a new platform, most likely the MQB A0 37.
The second is that every one of Kushaq’s rivals has two-row and three-row vehicles to cater to both ends of the market. MG, Kia, Hyundai, Mahindra, and Jeep all have these offerings. Expected to join them are Renault, Nissan, Maruti, and Toyota over the next two years.
Chauffeur driven market
A three-row vehicle allows manufacturers to cater to the entry-end of the chauffeur-driven buyer who places a bigger emphasis on the rear-seat experience. It also caters to those looking at people movers who will use all three rows of the vehicle.
Simply Clever
This would also play into Skoda’s legendary ‘Simply Clever’ packaging system where it could develop new accessories for an improved third-row experience. Skoda’s never had a budget three-row vehicle and this would be a huge leap for them.
