The 6th edition of the Lavasa Women’s Drive was held on February 22nd and was flagged off from Kamala Mills Compound in South Mumbai. The drive saw the participation of over 2000 women and around 350 cars cars in a 240km time-speed distance rally conducted under the guidance and rules set by the Indian Automotive Racing Club.
Carrying the social messages of violence against women, declining ratio of girls and more importantly women’s cancer prevention, the rally was flagged off by a host of celebrities like Purab Kohli and Hasleen Kaur and then at the finish line the participants were received with flowers and a special theme song rendered by singer Shibani Kashyap.
Commenting on the drive, Anuradha Paraskar, Senior VP, Lavasa Marketing Corporation said “Lavasa Women’s Drive has grown bigger, setting new milestones with each passing year. This year the participants actively polled a record 32 lakh votes from their acquaintances from over 100 countries to get themselves selected for the drive. It has emerged as a new platform for the modern Indian women to show their indomitable spirit by taking up new challenges and boldly displaying their concerns on issues affecting women.”
The drive in its last three editions has made it to the Limca book of records and is now attempting to set a new Guinness World Record. The campaign will culminate on the eighth of March with an Award ceremony in Mumbai to honour the winners. LWD primarily supports the cause of Cancer Prevention through Early Detection. A large part of money collected through registration, is donated to Women's Cancer Initiative - Tata Memorial Hospital.
