The next generation Audi A4 has been given a web reveal and will be officially unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is expected to be launched in India by the middle of next year and will compete with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series and Jaguar XE. In the run up to its unveiling, we have compiled a list of six reasons as to why you should eagerly await the next generation Audi A4.
1. New petrol engine
The next generation Audi A4 is being offered with a new four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine. It replaces the 1.8-litre TFSI unit that was offered with the previous vehicle and is quite fuel efficient. In fact, Audi has introduced a new system where the engine will reduce to a capacity of a 1.4-litre unit when travelling in heavy traffic.
2. Optional matrix headlamps
A technology that is fast moving across all of Audi’s models, the matrix headlamps makes use of a grid of LEDs to work as headlamps, indicators, fog lamps and cornering lamps. This basically minimises the number components in the assembly but at the same time illuminates the road much better than a conventional system.
3. Audi pre-sense
A new safety technology that makes use of a camera mounted on the windscreen to scan the road ahead and warn the driver to alter their throttle inputs based on the road conditions. If needed, it will also (within the limits of the system) begin applying the brakes at speeds of up to 40kmph.
4. 30 shades of ambient lighting
It’s pretty much self-explanatory because who does not love being enticed by a bit of showmanship. While its closest rival was one of the first to offer this option, Audi has taken this to a new level by offering thirty shades to light up the inside of the car! This will probably be the first car in the segment to offer such a large variety of shades.
5. Heads up display
It is fast becoming a popular addition among the luxury manufacturers and for good reason too. Apart from the usual bragging rights, it will also allow the driver to keep their eyes on the road, which is pretty much the idea of the technology.
6. Rear seat entertainment package
It will be an optional extra but is expected to be a popular choice among buyers. This comes in the form of a 10.1 inch Audi tablet that can be used to control the infotainment system. It is an Android-based tablet and supports NFC and has a storage capacity of 32GB.
