Carol Shelby founded company, Shelby American, has been tuning the Mustangs with stratospherical power outputs and aggressive styling since its inception. Add a Super Snake insignia and you get a mad Mustang that can give the European exotics a run for their money. Now the Super Snake version of the current-generation Mustang has been on sale since January, however, the American performance division has showcased a Super Snake Wide Body Concept at the ongoing 5th Annual Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show.
The Wide Body Concept is based on the 50th Anniversary Shelby Super Snake, but unlike the previous Wide Body Super Snake, which was designed primarily for drag racing, “this concept has more grip on all four corners to deliver a competitive edge on the road course” says Shelby. Which in simple terms, translate to a track-ready Mustang, instead of a straight-line monster.
Approximately four inches (100mm) is added to the rear track, while the front track is 2.5 inches (63.5mm) wider compared to the standard Super Snake. Shelby American has added a fully adjustable coil-over suspension, hardened wheel studs, stronger spindles and hubs to the Concept. The stopping power is boosted by Brembo supplied 16-inch rotors paired with six-piston calipers up front and 14-inch rotors linked to four-piston calipers at the rear. The aggressive and beefier 20-inch alloys wrapped in performance Michelin tyres helps in putting all the 750 horsepower to the road from the supercharged 5.0-litre V8.
This is the first Wide Body Super Snake from Shelby in decades. The track-focused package significantly alters the car’s driving dynamics asserts Shelby. The Super Snake “will deliver more communication to the driver and better absorb track imperfections, giving the Shelby razor sharp handling on almost any surface” says the Nevada-based performance division.
If the Wide Body Super Snakes Concept gets a green light, it will be available around the world with the package and will be a part of the official Shelby Registry.
