PSA Group, the company that owns Peugeot, Citroen and DS, has confirmed that it will reveal its first semi-autonomous car this year.
The DS 7 crossback SUV is the first vehicle to be equipped with the level-2 self-driving technology. This SUV will be able to maintain lanes and also shift to other lanes to let other vehicles pass. Other than this, it will also have a self-parking facility as part of its advanced driver assistance system.
The French manufacturer is also working on equipping its vehicles with level-3 self-driving systems. In fact, the company currently has around 12 prototype cars with level-3 self-driving capabilities which has been tested for thousands of kilometres.
A lot of manufacturers are also focusing a lot on self-driving cars. Most of them are convinced that this technology is bound to be useful in the next few years. Other than car manufacturers, cab aggregators like Uber and Lyft are also testing out their autonomous vehicles.
