The second generation of the Porsche Panamera hybrid will bow in at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. This time around it will be called the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and will slot in alongside the diesel and turbocharged models.
The hybrid tag comes from the powertrain that will sit under the hood of this four-door Porsche. The ‘tradtional’ bit comes from a new 2.9-litre twin-turbo petrol motor producing 330bhp/450Nm of torque while the new age source of motivation is an electric motor producing 136bhp/400Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed PDK and AWD system. This has given it a 0-100kmph time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 278kmph while also giving an average of 2.5-litre for every 100km. Further, the pure electric mode range has been boosted from 36km to 50km and top speed in this mode is 140kmph! Charging up the batteries takes roughly six hours and can be managed remotely through a smart phone or smart watch.
The cabin is typical modern Porsche with dual digital displays, touchscreen for the centre console and four individual leather seats to go fast and low but in ultimate comfort. This new Panamera was unveiled recently and features all the modern design hallmarks from Stuttgart like the quad head lamps, light bar at the rear and of course that low slung sporty stance.
We will get the new Panamera sometime in 2017 and this model which is a speciality even by Porshce’s standards may just land on our shores towards the end of next year if there is sufficient demand.
