The GLS-class, which replaced the Mercedes-Benz GL in 2015, is soon expected to receive a midlife update. A test mule of the second generation Mercedes GLS has been spotted for the first time wearing a camouflage and bogus bolt-on body panels - trying to hide the actual shape of the SUV.
The camouflage does its job well and does not display any styling feature of the upcoming car. Nevertheless, we can expect the new SUV to have lager dimensions than its predecessor. Also, as a part of the update, the new GLS shall break its cover with a revamped cabin and more luxurious interiors.
2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS will be built on the MHA platform resulting in the SUV being lighter than the current model. Moreover, it is expected to be powered by the same 3.0-litre V6 petrol and diesel engines. However, we expect the new GLS to be offered with a newly developed nine speed automatic gearbox coupled with the company’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. A more powerful AMG ‘G63’ version of the second generation GLS will be saved for later.
The new SUV is expected to break cover in the latter half of 2018. Post launch, the GLS will rival against the Volvo XC90, BMW X5 and the Audi Q7.
