Spy photographs of what seems like yet another Jaguar XE prototype have hit the web. However, Auto Express UK states that these spy shots are not of the upcoming BMW 3-Series rivalling XE, but of the entirely new second-generation XF.
Caught on test near Jaguar’s base in Warwickshire, the upcoming generation XF is based on the company’s new IQ [AL] all-aluminium architecture that will debut on the XE. The latter will be showcased for the first time at the Paris show later this year. Additionally, the all-aluminium platform will also form basis for Jaguar’s new SUV, also due in 2016.
Thanks to the all-aluminium construction, the second-generation XF will weigh significantly less than the current XF, up to 100kilograms lighter if we go by Auto Express’ report. As for the engines, the car will be powered by a range of 2-litre, four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines from Jaguar’s new Ingenium engine family.
The original XF replaced the ageing S-Type when it was launched back in 2007. Since then, the mid-size luxury sedan has done really well for Jaguar, putting up a strong sales performance in all the markets it’s being sold in. With the second generation model due in 2016, the British automaker is anticipating an even stronger result in the future.
