Introduced in 2009, the X1 is the smallest and the most affordable crossover model BMW makes. It’s also one of the products that is about to be refreshed soon with a heavy dose of styling and mechanical upgrades.
The forthcoming generation of the X1 has just been digitally rendered, ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. This is our most revealing look yet at the second generation X1. The car gets a protruding front grille, sloping roofline, plastic cladding, roof-mounted spoiler and dual exhaust pipes.
Inside, the basic cabin layout and materials will be carried over from the current model though BMW will add a few new features and update the iDrive infotainment system. The biggest upgrade, however, will be underneath the body shell. The new X1 is expected to make use of the UKL1 front-wheel drive platform that currently underpins the new generation of Mini hatchbacks. Since this is an ‘X’ designated vehicle, xDrive will be offered on specific variants but a majority of the offerings are expected to be front-wheel drive.
The new X1 is likely to be unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, followed by an official launch in select European markets. Meanwhile, the crossover could make its India debut sometime next year.
