Audi recently unveiled the second generation R8 lineup at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. This comprised of multiple versions of the German automaker’s flagship sports car including the R8 LMS race car which has now been spotted sans its colourful livery at the Paul Ricard Circuit in France.
The R8 LMS is a step up from its predecessor thanks to the increased safety protection in the form of a CFRP rear crash element as well as a roof mounted rescue opening. Internal additions include the Audi Protection Series PS1 which has been bolted directly onto the chassis to improve overall stiffness.
The car has lost a significant amount of weight thanks to improvements in construction. It weighs around 1.2-tonnes which is almost 25kg lighter than the older model. Powering this new race car is the familiar 5.2-litre V10 mill which in racing specification produces 585bhp and has been mated to a six-speed gearbox. The car is being built by Quattro GmbH and will be ready for deliveries by the second half of this year. It will make its debut at the Blancpain Endurance Series later this year.
