Seat, a relatively unfamiliar brand here in the Indian market, is set to unveil a new iteration of their popular hatchback for Europe. The model in question is called the Ibiza which is set to be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
Now in its fifth-gen, the Ibiza gets new interior tech and improvements in space and comfort. Seat has unveiled that the vehicle, which will go on sale in the UK in July 2017, adopts VW’s modular platform for weight saving and better packaging. It is wider by a notable 87mm, as well as two mm shorter and one lower than the previous model. The leg room in the rear has increased by 35mm, while head room has gone up by 24mm in the front seats and 17mm in the rear.
The Ibiza will come with Euro6-compliant engines. The entry level unit is a three-cylinder 1.0 TSI with 95 or 115bhp. A new EVO 1.5 TSI unit will also be available in late 2017 with four cylinders and 150bhp. The 1.6 TDI diesel engines will come in 80 and 95bhp guises in the UK.
Launched in 1984 for the first time, the Ibiza has been Seat’s top-selling model, with over 5.4 million units sold. The Ibiza, besides the Leon and the Ateca, is one of the most important models for Seat’s future success in European markets.
