According to our sources Volkswagen India will introduce a new 1.5-litre petrol engine with a power output of close to 120bhp. There aren’t many details yet, but the new engine is expected to replace the 1.6-litre engine used in the Vento.
The German carmaker recently launched the updated Polo with a new 1.5-litre diesel engine. This new motor was the highlight of the facelifted Polo. The next step for the company is to launch the facelifted Vento. Currently, the Vento gets a choice of three engines - a 1.6-litre diesel, a 1.2-litre TSI and a 1.6-litre petrol engine. While the oil burner will be the same turbocharged four-cylinder unit, the petrol version will get the 1.5-litre unit with power output comparable to that of the Honda City and Hyundai Verna. The new engine will use the five-speed manual transmission and the AT will be available with the TSI version.
There are also speculations that this engine might make its way into the Polo with a manual gearbox for the delight of the enthusiasts.
The details are still scarce but our source confirms that this new engine has reached the final stages of development. While the prospect of using this engine in the Vento is purely business, it will certainly create fireworks if it goes under the hood of the Polo. We will bring you more on this development and keep following us for more details.
