- To be offered in three variants across two engine options
- Fourth model under Citroen’s C-Cubed programme for India
Citroen’s fourth model for the Indian market will be launched tomorrow and ahead of its arrival, our sources have revealed that it will be launched with a very aggressive introductory base variant price. This pricing is expected to shake up the segment with its crosshairs set on sub four-metre SUVs and even compact sedans. If these are its targets, then the Basalt’s strategy will be a twofold one banking on the uniqueness of the body style and big car for smaller car money. We have driven the car and our first-drive review and video will be live at 11.30am tomorrow.
Official Bookings
What’s more official bookings for the coupe SUV will open tomorrow with the amount set at Rs. 25000. Some dealers have already been taking unofficial bookings for the car since the last week of July and have been charging the same amount as a down payment.
The Basalt will be offered in three variants- You, Plus and Max across two engine and three gearbox options. The lower-spec engine is Citroen 1.2-litre NA petrol producing 82bhp/115Nm and mated to a five-speed MT. The more powerful option is Citroen’s 1.2-litre turbo petrol which produced 109bhp/190Nm when paired to a six-speed MT and 109bhp/205Nm when paired to a six-speed torque converter AT.
The Basalt will come in below the C3 Aircross and by the look of things will now go up against cars like the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Maruti Fronx, Mahindra XUV3XO, Toyota Taisor, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
*The Citroen Basalt has been launched in India with an Introductory starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh. Bookings have opened from 9 August and this price will be valid till 31 October, 2024.
