Maruti Suzuki is offering a discount of Rs 25,000 on its premium sedan, the Ciaz. The Ciaz had been selling well since its launch in October last year. It even managed to hold its own against the class champion, the Honda City, managing to sell over 5,000 units in its best months. However, in July 2015, the sales of the Maruti Ciaz saw a dramatic drop; Maruti barely managed to sell 2,000 units of its premium sedan.
Such a significant drop in sales could mean that there might be an issue with the Ciaz or Maruti might possibly be re-working its priorities around the launch of its new premium crossover, the S-Cross. As is well known, Maruti is looking to move upmarket with the S-Cross and will sell the crossover through its Nexa range of premium dealerships. However, till the Grand Vitara arrives sometime next year, it needs a few other models to fill up the showroom space; maybe even the Ciaz.
And, to do that, Maruti might be planning to give the Ciaz an upgrade and a newer identity less than a year since its launch. It is possible - though there’s no official word from the company – that Maruti has halted production of the Ciaz, which has led to this drop in sales. The Rs 25,000 discount, then, is clearly meant to remove the older stock off the showroom floors.
