In 1907, the founders of Rolls Royce Motor Company - Charles Rolls, Claude Johnson, and Sir Henry Royce achieved an unfathomable feat of driving 14,371 miles (approx. 23,127 kilometres) in the original Silver Ghost to prove its endurance capabilities. Now, after 101 years, Rolls Royce is commemorating the achievement with the limited edition Silver Ghost Collection.
Based on the 2018 Ghost, the homage run is limited to just 35 units. Each of the bespoke units will be built at Rolls-Royce’s home in Goodwood, West Sussex in Great Britain. As a tribute to Sir Henry’s twelfth 40/50hp chassis completed with a Barker & Co 4/5 seater touring body of the original Silver Ghost, the limited edition Collection will be finished in Cassiopeia Silver paint. The hand-painted coach line will take a painstaking eight hours to be completed by Rolls-Royce’s master coach line painter.
The characteristic radiator grille to be finished in gloss black is another nod to the Silver Ghost. Meanwhile, the fully-polished wheel centres will have a ‘Silver Ghost – Since 1907’ engraved on a Cassiopeia silver backing. The iconic Spirit of Ecstasy will feature a specially created hallmark of AX201, the registration plate of the original ‘Silver Ghost’. It will be marked on the base of each muse by the British Assay office. The black-gold plated collar on the base of the Spirit of Ecstasy will carry a unique copper hammered insert as a tribute to the extensively used copper in the engine bay of the original ‘Silver Ghost’.
On the inside, the coach doors are to be wrapped in special Forest Green leather as a compliment to the original interior scheme. It will be combined with a newly designed silver tipped leather making its debut in Rolls-Royce. The classic clock on the dashboard will have distinct hallmarks as a reminiscent of the original. There will be plaque engraved with ‘Silver Ghost Collection – One of Thirty-Five’ on the centre console. Even the umbrella will be special with a rare and collectable Silver Ghost hamper for the connoisseurs.
Of course prices for this collectable Silver Ghost Collection will be exorbitant. But then as they say, “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it”.
