Rolls Royce Phantom undergoes cold weather testing

The all-new generation of the Phantom is slated to arrive next year and Rolls-Royce has already put the new car through rigorous testing. Dropping some camo, the new Phantom has been spotted undergoing a cold weather test in Sweden and gave us a glimpse of production ready tail-pipes, rear view mirrors and windows sans the disguise.

Entering the eighth generation, the flagship from the British marque would be as big and opulent as its predecessor. However, it will be lighter owing to the new modular platform made largely out of aluminium. The new gen Phantom will also benefit from parent company BMW’s carbon fibre expertise in certain key areas to keep the weight down. Under the camouflage, the Luxo-barge is seen sporting sleeker LED headlamps, the characteristic massive grille upfront and smooth flowing tailgate with similar tail lights as the outgoing car.

Rolls-Royce will carry forward the massive V12 engine, albeit with efficient touches from BMW. However, the next gen Phantom might get a plug-in hybrid drivetrain a little later in its production run. The owners will no longer need to hire a chauffeur since the Rolls-Royce will bring out semi-autonomous tech in the new flagship, with new connectivity options and driver assistance technologies.

Rolls-Royce is expected to launch the new flagship Phantom at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show and the car will hit the roads later next year. The new gen Phantom will continue to give buyers some of the best experiences a luxury car can offer.
