Rolex has signed a deal to become the official time keeper and time piece for Formula 1 from 2013. The Swiss watch maker has said the move demonstrates its commitment to motor racing and its support of global sport at the very highest level.
In its capacity as the official timekeeper and official timepiece, Rolex will give the time in different locations during each Grand Prix. The Rolex logo will also be positioned around the circuit and at several corners during F1 races.
Commenting on the deal, Gian Riccardo Marini, CEO of Rolex, said “this is an exciting step for us at Rolex as the fit between Formula One and our brand feels very natural and, like all great partnerships, needs little explanation.”
Rolex has had a long association with motorsport. As a brand, it has been associated with various race car drivers since the 1930s; most notable of these is Jackie Stewart a three-time F1 champion between 1969 and 1973.
