Those lucky guys!
Yes, (after cleaning up my vocabulary), these are the only three words that come to mind as I write this story that Malaysia will get the RHD spec 2016 Ford Mustang by the middle of next year. When Ford had unveiled the 2015 Mustang in December 2013, it said that the car was being integrated into the ‘One Ford’ programme and for the first time would be produced in RHD configuration for right-hand drive markets.
This exciting news was revealed by Ford’s Asia Pacific group VP and President David Schoch during a media interaction recently. The RHD-spec vehicle's production will begin in the second-half of 2015 at the Blue Oval’s plant in Flat Rock Michigan. It will then debut in Malaysia in the last quarter of 2015.
The Malaysian market will get the 2.3-litre Ecoboost V6 as well as the truly all-American supercharged 5.0-litre V8. What’s even more exciting is that the convertible version will also be made available once the hardtop is launched.
The Indian market is on the rise and slowly seeing a change in fortunes. We believe that this may actually allow Ford to contemplate bringing the Mustang here as a Halo product in limited numbers (a.k.a CBU route) but with both engine and roof options.
