It was a spectacular moment of sorts when Ford unveiled its Figo sedan concept car in Delhi ahead of the 2014 Auto Expo earlier this year. Combining the stunning Kinetic design language of Ford along with the unique Indianness of the compact sedan regulations, the Figo sedan is expected to be launched next year and will be followed a few months later by the hatchback.
While this is something that we cannot predict (the launch date) what we do have on hand are spy pictures of the Figo CS testing in Brazil and more importantly in RHD setup.
The spy pictures do not reveal much but then again we already know what the car will be like in production form as it is already on sale in Brazil (both as a full size sedan and hatchback). If we are to go by the American automaker’s ‘One Ford’ philosophy, then we will get exactly the same vehicle in India, with a few cost cutting measures obviously.
On the engine and gearbox front, Ford is expected to continue the same engines from the current Figo but is also likely to include the 1.0-litre EcoBoost unit and this will be offered the same way Ford is doing with the EcoSport right now.
The car is expected to be the first vehicle that will be manufactured at Ford’s new plant in Gujarat which will go online by the middle of next year.
