Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar of Udaipur, the descendant of the House of Mewar has become the first Indian to win a prize at Pebble Beach. His 1924, 20 HP, Barker Tourer Rolls-Royce won the Lucius Beebe Trophy, an award given to a Rolls-Royce considered most in the tradition of Lucius Beebe who served among Pebble Beach’s early judges.
The car (RR GLK 21) which sat idle for many years was discovered by Arvind Singh at the Zenana Mahal in the city palace and was restored to its former glory. Speaking on the achievement Arvind Singh said that by participating in the event, he had a chance to showcase his family’s legacy and heritage, in this case a ‘living heritage’ which was extremely valuable.
On the occasion, the House of Mewar also released a coffee table book titled ‘The Royal Udaipur RR GLK 21 Classic drive from Derby to Udaipur to Pebble Beach and…Continues’. The book chronicles the journey of the car and its association with various members of the royal family over the last seven generations.
