Renault India is reportedly developing a small car for India. The French car maker got the much needed shot in its arm in sales when they introduced the Duster crossover. However, there aren’t too many products apart from the Duster that do the talking when it comes to business. Renault currently boasts of a market share of 2.5 per cent and plans to increase the figure to 5 per cent in the future.
Work is underway on the development of a new small car which will be launched next year. This upcoming small car will be developed in India for emerging markets. Renault displayed the small car concept, Kwid, at the Auto Expo 2014 and expects this model to be a major money spinner for the company. The car will also be made in Brazil apart from India.
The entry-level Renault small car might be launched at a very competitive price and could be cheaper than the recently launched Datsun GO. The company also has plans to launch a MPV in the market which could be the Lodgy which has been decently successful elsewhere.
India is predominantly a small car market and to have a respectable market share any car maker needs at least one small car. The introduction of the small car will certainly add numbers to its sales and could make Renault more than just a company that manufactures the Duster.
