Renault has unleashed its Kwid 1.0-litre and Easy-R (AMT spec) models at the 2016 Auto Expo. The cars were both left uncovered at the Renault stall leaving most auto journalists to go up close and examine the cars before realising what they were looking at.
The 1.0-litre variant, dubbed SCe, gets some special badging and graphics on the side while the rest of the car remains standard. We believe that the three-cylinder petrol engine is expected to produce around 67bhp and 90Nm of torque. It will be offered with a five-speed manual.
The AMT uses the same 1.0-litre mill and has been called Easy-R. Instead of a traditional gear knob, Renault has fitted a dial on the dash board which three options- reverse, neutral and drive. The French automaker has also fitted a crawl function for helping the car move forward and backward slowly without any throttle input. In terms of appearance, the AMT spec models get some additional badging over the 1.0-litre model.
These two variants are expected to be launched over the course of this year and will be priced on league with its closest rival the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Alto K10 AMT. These are two very important segments for Renault to crack if it wants to give the Kwid the real volumes expected from it.
