The French carmaker, Renault, entered our shores with a joint-venture with the Mahindra group, the company was founded in 2005 and the first car rolled out in 2007. The first product to roll out of the assembly line was the Logan sedan. The JV stood dissolved in 2010 and Renault and Nissan joined hands by starting a manufacturing facility in Chennai. The company today has five product offerings and this year at the Auto Expo things are getting hotter at the Renault stand.
In 2011, the company launched the Fluence and the Koleos SUV, they also brought in the rebadged Nissan Micra which was renamed the Renault Pulse. The turnaround came when they brought in their most important product, the Duster. The Duster is a crossover that was launched with the reliable K9K diesel engine and a petrol motor. The crossover caught the attention of the Indian SUV buyer and also enticed many who were confused between a sedan and an SUV. The Duster set the company’s Indian dreams afloat as none of the other products picked up.
Renault will surely like to change their fortunes and be better known than just a company that produces the Duster. This Auto Expo, they will showcase the facelifted Duster, Fluence and the Koleos and an all-new concept car. The facelifted Duster gets some changes to the exterior and spruced up interiors with better features. It will retain the same reliable K9K engine and will be mated to the current five-speed gearbox.
The Fluence will also be unveiled at the show, like the Duster, it also gets interior and exterior upgrades. The car is now much more contemporary-looking and might attract buyers. The 2014 Fluence gets all-new bumpers, a new grille adorns the front fascia, new headlamps and tail lights add more flair complete with all-new alloy wheels. It might retain the same common 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine and a 2.0-litre petrol engine.
Renault announced the pricing of the Koleos facelift much before its unveiling at the Auto Expo. The new Koleos will be on display at the Renault stall along with its siblings. The Koleos might continue to be seen in one variant like the older model and will sport the same 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor producing 148bhp and 320Nm mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel drive. The refreshed version get a new grille, new front bumper, all-new alloy wheels, a seven-inch touch screen infotainment system, new trim colours, rear parking camera and new leather upholstery.
The company also teased a concept which will be unveiled globally at the Auto Expo, there aren’t too many details about it though.
