Renault has just announced that its sole small car offering, the Kwid, has crossed the 3-lakh sales mark in India. Having played a key role in the growth of the French carmaker here in India, the Kwid continues to sell in good numbers.
The Kwid sold in India is available with two petrol engine options – a 1.0-litre motor and an 800cc motor. Gearbox options, meanwhile, include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. Interestingly, the Kwid facelift was recently spied undergoing testing on the outskirts of Pune. It will be the first significant update for the Kwid, ever since it was introduced in May 2015.
Under the hood, the existing 800cc and 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engines will be carried over onto the new Kwid. However, both the powertrains will be BS-VI compliant and continue to be offered with a 5-speed manual and AMT options. The new Kwid could be launched in India towards the end of this year or early next year.
