Renault had confirmed to launch five cars in India by the end of 2012, while four of them are already here the company has now announced to unveil a new sedan before Diwali this year. Although, the French car maker has refused to divulge any details about this car, here is a brief description of what can be expected out of Renault’s new car, which might be called the Scala.
Renault-Nissan alliance share lot more than just technology and engines, which is evident when you look at their range. The Nissan Micra and the Renault Pulse is almost the same car, while the same diesel engine with different power ratings is used in the Micra, Pulse, Sunny, Duster and the Fluence. Similarly, the Renault Koleos is based on the new Nissan X-Trail that is yet to make its India debut. Based on above it is not very difficult to understand that the new C-segment sedan from Renault will be a rebadged Nissan Sunny.
The rumours are that Renault will call this new sedan, the Scala. The Scala will be based on the same V-platform (Versatile) that underpins the Micra, Pulse and the Sunny. Initially, Renault may launch only the diesel version, while the petrol model will be introduced later just like in case of the Pulse hatchback. The sedan will be powered by the efficient K9K dCi diesel engine producing 85bhp and 200Nm torque (same as the Nissan Sunny), with almost exactly the same components used in the Sunny.
Generally, Renault cars are priced at a premium over Nissan model, so the Scala is expected to be more expensive than the Sunny. In fact this model has so much space and opportunity for upgraded that it might very well be placed in the C+ segment.
Renault is very closely related to Formula1 and hence they unveiled the Pulse during the inaugural Indian F1 GP last year. We expect Renault to follow the tradition and unveil the Scala during the Formula 1 weekend – October 26 to 28.
