This is the second instance where the French hot hatch, the Renault Megane RS was seen hitting the track. The test mule has been spotted hot lapping the Nürburgring and these continuous tests indicate the arrival of the hot hatch soon.
Renault’s flagship hatchback sported heavy camouflage at that time. The test mule, however, reveals quite a few styling elements of the upcoming Megane RS. The hot hatch features a huge air vent up front and the ‘chequered flag’ style DRLs which contour the projector headlamp assembly. The car appears to be lowered, and gets a sporty body kit to improve its aerodynamics.
Powering the hot hatch could be a 1.8-litre turbocharged in-line four-cylinder engine from the Alpine A110 instead of the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. Either way, Renault has confirmed that the upcoming hot hatch will produce power figures over 300bhp. The front wheel drive engine is expected to be mated to an EDC dual-clutch automatic gearbox. However, a six-speed manual gear box may be on offer for driving enthusiasts.
The hatch back is expected to make a debut at the Frankfurt Motor show in September 2017. Once launched, the Renault Megane RS enter the fray against competitors like Audi RS3, BMW M135i, Ford Focus RS, Volkswagen Golf R and the Mercedes-AMG A45. It seems likely that the French manufacturer is aiming at claiming the title of the ‘fastest front wheel drive hatchback’ on the Nordschleife track in Nürburgring, which is currently held by Honda Civic Type R.
