Renault is likely to showcase a 1.0-litre and AMT spec variant of the Kwid hatchback at the 2016 Auto Expo. Renault launched the Kwid for the Indian market in September for a price of Rs 2.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and since then has managed to get over 50,000 bookings, making it their biggest success to date.
The Kwid is the French automaker’s answer to Maruti Suzuki Alto range in the A-segment of the Indian market and these two additions to the range seem to be logical step forward in terms of taking the fight to the Alto K10 and Alto K10 AMT.
The Alto K10’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine in manual and AMT spec produces 67bhp and 90Nm of torque. We expect the Kwid in a similar setup to have a similar output. Given what we have seen in the Kwid so far, we expect the gear controls for the AMT versions to be mounted on the dashboard and be controlled through a rotary dial.
We expect that these two versions of the Kwid will be priced in the range of Rs 3.20 lakh to Rs 4.10 lakh, an almost marginal increase over the price of the Alto K10.
