Renault may be working on a new SUV- the Maxthon - to succeed the Koleos. As per reports, the new SUV will measure over five metres in length and seat seven passengers to be the flagship SUV from the French manufacturer.
From the images, it is evident that the Maxthon features the design language of the latest Renaults like the Megane and the Espace. The high mounted twin-barrel headlamps are an extension of the front grille with the large diamond emblem pasted in the centre. On the side, the large wheel arches and the upsweeping shoulder line makes it look big. The tail lamps are again signature Renault c-shaped LED wraparounds. The brushed-steel finish bash plates give it a macho look.
The Maxthon is based on the same platform as Nissan’s X-Trail which is coming to India next month. The Maxthon may get the 130bhp 1.6-litre inline four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine like the global X-Trail. While it may also get the 150bhp 2.0-litre dCi engine like the Koleos in India. The Koleos has not really been able to ring in numbers for the French manufacturer in India. But, with seven seats and a frugal diesel engine, the Maxthon may be able to take on the competition.
Renault has done well in the last quarter with the Kwid volumes picking up and should be looking forward to expanding its product portfolio in the country. The Maxthon, in that case, would be a good addition to the range.
