The MPV market is expanding quickly in our country with different manufacturers planning to bring in new vehicles for the Indian market. Snapped by our friends at PowerDrift, the Renault Lodgy Stepway was spotted on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in a disguised avatar.
The vehicle seen in the pictures is a 'Stepway' variant of the Lodgy that was exhibited at the Paris Motor show last year. This model is the top-of-the-line variant of the Lodgy MPV and looks sporty unlike the other MPVs in this segment. The car comes equipped with skid-plates in the front and at the back, and sports a side body cladding. The chrome grille at the back comes embossed with the 'Logdy' badging and rear parking sensors can also be seen on the bumper. The front grille is also expected to be embellished in chrome.
More details will be available soon and we expect the India-spec model to get features like a touch-screen infotainment system similar to the Duster. The Lodgy for the Indian market is expected to be powered by the 1.5-litre four-cylinder K9K diesel engine that comes mated to a five-speed or six-speed manual gearbox.
This new MPV made its debut in India last week at an award show and Renault India confirmed that the Lodgy will be launched in a couple of months. The Renault Duster is produced at the Renault-Nissan's manufacturing plant in Oragadam, Chennai and we expect the Lodgy also to go into production there. We can expect it to be launched in March for a price starting at Rs 10 lakh and the top-end costing Rs 15 lakh. It will compete with the Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo and Nissan Evalia in the MPV segment of in India.
