Renault India recently launched the Stepway variant of the Lodgy for the Indian market. The new variant is a more premium version of the MUV with beefier looks and additional features.
The Stepway gets a cosmetic makeover; the fascia sports a chrome slat above the 'jewel-studded' grille and a sporty two-tone bumper. The prominent 'Stepway' badging on the doors andskid protectors and a side body cladding are the other features that distinguish the new variant from the standard versions.
The cabin also gets a few changes in the form of premium leather seats and chrome door sill plates. The biggest change is addition of the touch-screen infotainment system, which is similar to the one in the top-end Duster. The Stepway is available as an upgrade version of the 110bhp RxZ variants.
While limited editions are not new to the Indian market, it is a surprise to see one within two months of the launch. Renault managed to sell around 4,000 units of the Lodgy in the first two months and introduction of these versions, which demand Rs 50,000 premium over the standard models, seem to denote that customers are looking for premium variants. Also with these additions, the Lodgy is in better position to take on the market leader, Toyota Innova, which is still significantly more expensive than the Lodgy.
We should have a clearer picture in the next couple of months, both on the success of the Lodgy and also specifically of this Stepway edition. Till then, check out these detailed pictures of the car.
