When Renault India revealed the Lodgy MPV for the first time in India, the vehicle they exhibited was a Stepway variant. It is a beefed up version of the Lodgy MPV on sale now and gets a few additional features. This model might be launched soon in India.
The manufacturer showcased the Stepway variant at the Renault Star Guild Awards show in India, which was the same model that was exhibited at the Paris Motor show. The car gets a special 'Stepway' badging on the doors, skid protectors and sports a side body cladding. We can expect a chrome embellished grille on the India-spec model and features like a touch-screen infotainment system from the Duster already on sale in India.
Renault India will continue to power the Stepway variant with the diesel engine and there will be no petrol model for the Indian market. This means the 1.5-litre four-cylinder K9K diesel mill will continue to be employed. This mill will come mated to a five-speed or six-speed manual gearbox.
Renault India recently launched the Lodgy, which has upped the competition in the MPV segment that had the Toyota Innova as the clear leader in that segment. With the introduction of the Lodgy Stepway, the Indian consumers will be given a new good looking option to choose from. It might be priced slightly above the standard Lodgy and scale up the competition with the Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo and the Nissan Evalia.
