Renault had showcased the much talked about Kwid 1.0-litre at the 2016 Auto Expo event. Back then, the vehicle was showcased in manual and AMT options. Sumit Sawhney, Renault India’s CEO and Managing Director has now stated that one of these variants might be available within the first half of the year.
The current 800cc petrol engine powered Kwid has been a considerable contributor to Renault’s overall sales in India. Back in April, Kwid sales figures had shown a growth of 211 per cent. It is worth noting that currently, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 has been the only one to offer an AMT option. The upcoming Kwid AMT with a 1.0-litre engine will emerge as a strong competitor to the Alto K10.
Another close competitor, Hyundai Eon 1.0-litre, though, is a decent performer misses out on an AMT option. The upcoming Kwid variant will be powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder SCe petrol engine. The power output figures have not been revealed for now, but the company has stated that it will be a fairly powerful engine in its segment.
The higher variants in the new Kwid will get features like a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system. Safety features like ABS and dual front airbags will be offered as optional. On the pricing aspect, it might be priced competitively against the Alto K10.
