Renault has started testing of their upcoming new hatchback - the Kwid. A test mule of the vehicle was spied testing in Bengaluru.
The Kwid is the first hatchback from the Renault Nissan alliance to be based on the modular CMF-A platform. Inspired by Renault's global design language, the fascia sports a black grille and headlamps are inspired from larger SUVs from Renault. The compact-sized vehicle gets a body cladding, sports wheel arches and will be equipped with 13- or 14-inch wheels.
The cabin features a seven-inch infotainment system, sat-nav and a digital instrument cluster as a standard feature. Driver-side airbag will be offered as an option with the top-end variant. The Kwid will be powered by an 800cc three-cylinder petrol engine that will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. An AMT gearbox could also be offered, but there will be no diesel engine option at the time of the launch.
Renault is promoting the Kwid as a modern, bold and aggressive vehicle, which comes loaded with features and SUV-inspired looks that should appeal to the Indian consumers. This compact entry-level hatchback is expected to be launched in India in September and Renault will price it in the Rs 3-4lakh segment. It will compete with the Maruti Alto K10, Datsun GO and Hyundai Eon.
