Renault may actually produce its KWID concept car in an attempt to cash in on the booming bid for crossovers of all sizes. Unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi, the sub four metre B+ segment crossover has been developed by the French automaker keeping developing markets in mind.
The Renault KWID is derived from the larger Captur crossover and is expected to retain its proportions for most of the markets that it will be sold in. It is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit that will produce around 123bhp and 175Nm of torque. The engine is expected to be offered with the option of a six-speed manual or an AT gearbox.
Its party piece (apart from the fact that it looks really funky!) is that it has its own aerial reconnaissance unit which launches from the centre of the car and can fly ahead to give the driver a view of what lies ahead of him/her.
The KWID is expected to be priced from 11,500 GBP (Rs 11.31 lakh) in the UK but if it is expected to be launched in a market like India, it will need a price below Rs 8 lakh. We believe that they will produce the car in India to be exported for all RHD markets and also that the production version may move to the same platform as the Renault Duster in a bid to keep costs down.
