The Kwid can firmly be called as the game-changer for Renault knowing how the entry-level hatchback has helped the company post good sales numbers. Renault India's sales in December 2015 shot up by 160 per cent in comparison to the previous year’s sales numbers.
The company sold 10,292 units last month in comparison to just 3,959 units they had sold in December 2014. The exact sales figures for the Kwid are not available, but the hatchback has helped them boost their sales. Above 20,000 units of the Kwid are estimated to be sold by the end of last year from its launch in September 2015.
The Renault Kwid received over 25,000 bookings within a week of its launch and still has a high demand. It has been able to create the buzz due to its good looks, new features and affordable pricing. However, the waiting period for the car shot up to six months in Tier II cities. It is not readily available in Tier I cities as well. And, despite the outage in the company's manufacturing plant in Chennai due to floods, the company managed to keep their sales numbers up due to the sales of the Kwid backed by the Duster.
The necessary traction required for the sales to pick up was also supported by the company’s dealership network expansion. From just 14 sales and service facilities in mid-2011 to 200 till date, Renault has increased its presence in urban, semi-urban and rural regions in our country as well.
