The Kwid is Renault’s entrant to the high-volume hatchback segment of the Indian market and the budget car has proved to be an instant hit with the masses. The sales figures of the game-changer Renault Kwid has just crossed the 85,000 mark officially.
Renault has almost tripled their sales numbers since the launch of the Kwid. The company sold 10,292 units last month in comparison to just 3,959 units they had sold in December 2014. The Kwid went on sale on 24 September, 2015 and received over 25,000 bookings within a week. Despite increasing the production output by 50 per cent, Renault is finding it difficult to meet the demand. The huge demand for the SUV-like designed Kwid has led Renault to expand their dealership network.
The Kwid is powered by a three-cylinder, 799cc petrol engine producing 53bhp and 72Nm of torque. The Kwid is currently only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. A more powerful 1.0-litre engine and an AMT gearbox is currently in the works for Kwid. The price for the Renault Kwid starts at Rs 2.57 lakh(ex-showroom Delhi). There is a waiting period of around six months in Mumbai, however. It rivals the Maruti Alto, the Datsun Go and the Hyundai Eon.
