A prototype of the second generation Renault Koleos has been spotted testing in southern Europe. The level of camouflage indicates the product is at the early stages of development and it looks like it has grown slightly bigger.
It is a little hard to guess the details as the test mule carried heavy camouflage, but it seems like the vehicle has grown a bulging shoulder line. The rear quarter panel is heavily masked indicating at a longer fixed window. The bonnet is larger and so is the grille, the front skid plates aren’t aluminium, however, this is a test mule and details are bound to change drastically. The SUV looks lower than the outgoing model, but it could also be due to the exterior design.
Details are scarce, but it is rumoured that the new Koleos will ride on the Common Module Platform (CMP) architecture that will underpin the new X-Trail.
The Koleos never really tasted success in India; it was positioned as an urban soft-roader with only an automatic transmission. It pricing put it in direct competition with the larger SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the Hyundai Santa Fe, which didn’t do it any good. Although, we are not certain if it will get a seven-seat option, it is expected to be bigger than the outgoing model.
