The Renault Kaptur has been spotted testing in India for the first time. It is a new crossover from the French automaker and is offered as an urban SUV in their lineup. It was unveiled and subsequently launched in Russia earlier this year.
While still camouflaged, we can see all the typical Renault lines as well as the signature elements like the grille, tail lamps, wheels and roofline. Inside, it is expected to get a more premium cabin as compared to the Duster and will be offered as a seven-seater vehicle.
Globally, the Kaptur is offered with a range of petrol and diesel engines in the range of 1.2-litre to 1.6-litres. Expect a five-speed manual for the base model while the higher spec versions will get six-speed manual as well as six-speed AMT. To keep costs down, Renault is not expected to offer AWD with the Kaptur.
It will be built at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant outside Chennai and is expected to be launched around Q3 of 2017. The Kaptur will slot in above the Duster in Renault India’s hierarchy and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 14 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. It will be targeted at those looking at vehicles like the Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla and the Chevrolet Cruze.
